Van McElwee

Four monitors are placed at points corresponding to the points of a tetrahedron. Through this Euclidean form passes a sculpted Chinese sky labyrinth, appearing at different moments on each screen. In the same way that a three dimensional object intersects a two dimensional plane, these four "capture points" reveal a four dimensional cloud form as it passes through the actual space of the gallery. In these clouds, nothing moves but our viewpoint; time becomes a frozen path in a higher space. Four monitors, four video sources and two pedestals. 2000.

These animations describe a set of monitor installations that were shown variously in the US and Europe in the 1990's and 2000. Venues include: The Kitchen in New York, Gallery Trabant in Vienna, Argos Gallery in Brussels, Art Amsterdam, Art Brussels, Scope London, Art Frankfurt,  The International short Film Festival in Lille, France, KunstZurich, Switzerland, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, and St. Louis University Museum of Art.
